From CSS Guru to Web Design & Development Specialist
I’m a freelance web designer and developer with more than 25 years of experience creating high-performance websites and digital experiences.
I started out as a CSS specialist in London in 2004, developing a deep understanding of responsive web design, HTML, JavaScript and user interface design. Over the years, my skill set has expanded into custom website design, website redesign, UI/UX design, front-end development, JavaScript, PHP and WordPress development.
Today, I help businesses design, redesign and improve websites that look great, perform well and provide a better user experience. I combine UI design, UX optimisation and technical development to create websites that are not only visually strong, but fast, accessible and easy to use.
I also build websites with the changing search landscape in mind. Clear content, structured data and strong technical foundations help create AI-friendly and AI-ready websites that can be better understood by both search engines and emerging AI platforms.
Based in South Africa and working with clients internationally, I bring design, development and technical expertise together to create effective digital experiences without the layers of a traditional web agency.
2004
Early 2000s · London, United Kingdom
I began freelancing as a CSS Guru in London in 2004, teaching himself CSS at a pivotal time when it was transforming web design and development. As the industry moved away from rigid table-based layouts, CSS enabled more flexible, responsive websites and laid the foundations for modern front-end development and UI design.
Building on this early expertise, I worked as a freelance front-end developer for leading London advertising agencies, specialising in HTML, CSS and JavaScript. He contributed to large-scale digital projects for global brands including Halifax Bank, Guinness, Nike, KFC and Cadbury’s, developing a strong foundation in web design, user experience and front-end development.
2007
Relocation to South Africa
In 2007, I relocated to South Africa with my family while continuing to work with clients in the United Kingdom and expanding his international client base across South Africa, Europe, the United States and Australia.
Working independently allowed me to combine creative web design with hands-on development, creating custom websites and web interfaces with a strong focus on performance, usability and responsive design.
2010
Expanding into WordPress Development
As WordPress became an increasingly capable content management system, I began using it to give clients greater control over their websites.
This expanded his skill set beyond front-end development into custom website development, WordPress development and bespoke digital solutions, including:

Embracing AI in Web Design & Development
As AI began fundamentally changing the way websites are designed, developed and discovered, I expanded his expertise into AI website design and AI website development.
Building on more than 25 years of experience in web design and development, he began exploring how AI can be used throughout the website creation process — from research, content and design through to development, optimisation and testing.
This has also led to a growing focus on AI-ready website development: creating websites with clear structures, meaningful content, strong technical foundations and well-organised data so they can be better understood by search engines and AI systems.
Today, I combine traditional web design and development expertise with modern AI tools and techniques to create faster, smarter and more effective digital experiences.
